5 Daily Habits for Healthier Teeth and Gums

Good oral health starts with daily habits. While professional dental care is essential, what you do every day at home has the biggest impact on the health of your teeth and gums.

1. Brush Properly Twice a Day

Use a soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste. Brush for a full two minutes, covering all surfaces. An electric toothbrush can be more effective at removing plaque than manual brushing.

2. Floss Daily

Flossing removes plaque and food particles from between teeth where your brush cannot reach. If traditional floss is difficult, try interdental brushes or a water flosser.

3. Limit Sugary and Acidic Foods

Sugar feeds the bacteria that cause decay. Acidic drinks like fizzy drinks and citrus juices can erode enamel. Enjoy them in moderation and rinse with water afterwards.

4. Stay Hydrated

Water helps wash away food particles and bacteria. It also promotes saliva production, which is your mouth's natural defence against decay.

5. Do Not Skip Your Check-Ups

Regular dental visits allow early detection and treatment of problems before they become serious. Prevention is always easier and less costly than treatment.

Bonus Tip

Consider a mouthwash with fluoride for added protection, especially if you are prone to cavities.
